Adoration Services Live from the Basilica of Bom Jesus The Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, is an act of coming before Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament in His entirety; His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity and thus to contemplate on his love, mercy and the concern that he has for all that are united through him.
When a person comes before the Blessed Sacrament, the person is in the Real Presence of Jesus who allows him/her to speak with Him in their mind and heart. Perpetual Adoration means that Christ, in the Most Holy Eucharist, is available for exposition and adoration ongoing, day and night.
At the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Adoration services are held everyday from 6:00 to 6:45 am. They are streamed live on the Official YouTube channel of the Basilica – St Francis Xavier Official Basilica Bom Jesus Goa and thereafter, available throughout the day. Hence one can participate in the daily adoration at any given time.
Initially the adoration would begin from 5 am to 5:45 am. But due to the request of the faithful, the timing was changed to 6 am from the 1st of August’21. During the Adoration service, we invite the faithful to send in their prayer requests either through WhatsApp or through the comments and thus we pray for them during the Adoration service.
The Adoration service begins when the priest takes the consecrated host and places it in a monstrance. The monstrance is then placed on the altar of the church for exposition.
Once the monstrance is placed on the altar, the faithful reverently genuflect or bow before His Presence, for He is the King and our God. There is some time to be alone with Jesus, praising and giving thanks. The Priest conducting the adoration service, in a way, plays the role of accompanying the faithful to spend time with Jesus. The Priest reflects on the readings of the day and this is done in English as well as Konkani. Various hymns of adoration are also sung in between allowing the faithful to have a more spiritual experience with the Lord. The Priest then prays for the intentions of the people. The adoration comes to a close when the Priest gives the final blessing.
