Motherhood: I cannot have a child but, a child can have me

‘It is not the actual physical exertion that counts towards one’s progress, nor the nature of the
task, but by the spirit of faith with which it is undertaken’
St. Francis Xavier

Through excruciating pain, the 20-year-old girl was wheeled into the operation theatre. No one knew what had happened. Just that she was losing consciousness. Just a day before she helped clean the house, went marketing, brought flowers for the altar – to prepare for the Feast of the Assumption of our Lady.

Suddenly she was taken to the hospital at 0000 hours and till 4.00 am they could not find out what was wrong. Parents and grandparents all prayed save our child. At 4.30am they came out and said she is sinking pray for her. Dad cried, “Please do all you can and save her”. They brought in a new gynaecologist who found a tumour on the left ovary. They tried to save it but they could not. Her pulse came up but she went into a coma. The poison had spread through her body. She fought for her life, they prayed for her life. The Lord is my Sheppard there is nothing I shall want. They believed and their prayers were answered. After 20 days she came out of the coma. Thin, weak but alive.

Her 1 st question was am I in heaven?

Her doctor told her you are a fighter and we are amazed. You are brave.

But she knew they were not telling her everything. So, she asked the doctor to tell her the real thing…. Doctor said we had to take out an ovary to save your life. You may never conceive. She smiled and said ”so what if I cannot have a child, a child can have me” Building her health and stamina once again was not easy but she was a fighter. She met a man, who shared her dream. One fine day they walked into Mother Theresa’s ashram and brought home a little baby girl. Miracles happen, she said. Her little girl is an adult today. Her prayer to the Lord has always been Your will be done. Prayers can move mountains and she has lived through it.

When the lord is with you who can be against you?
